Invention Proposal | Squirtie | Collapsible Travel Container
In Summer of 2015, I took some personal time to pursue aspirations. One of them being the inventor and creator of a successful household product. I submitted several ideas to Quirky.com and although none of them were picked-up as a product line, they were still very well received by the Quirky community and were personally fulfilling. Below is my submission prompt for Squirtie, an adaptive, adjustable, and collapsible travel container.
What problem does your idea address?
Are you tired of getting to your hotel room or camp site to find that your shampoo bottle has exploded inside of your luggage? Are you tired of not being able to fit all of your personal care products inside of your travel pouch because your soap and lotion bottles take up too much space? The average travel bottle does nothing to prevent against leakage of liquids due to changes in atmospheric pressure during a trip in an airplane or to locations of high altitude. Additionally, the average travel bottle uses the same amount of space in your bag regardless of how much liquid it contains.
How does your idea solve this problem?
The solution is the Squirtie with its accordion-like bottle design made of flexible and durable rubber that allows it to withstand changes in atmospheric pressure. The Squirtie also includes a screw-on cap with attachment strap and one-way valve for added protection against leakage due to pressure changes. The Squirtie has the ability to be sized to various volumes depending on how much liquid you wish to transport and is an ideal feature for getting your liquids past TSA agents and onto your flight. Simply push rungs of the accordion-like bottle up into the locking top to fasten them in place until you have reached your desired size. When your Squirtie becomes empty you can minimize the amount of space it uses by flattening it to its most space-saving size. When you're ready to refill your Squirtie simply pull down on the finger grip on the bottom of the bottle to pull out the rungs.
